Last year, UGA awarded more than $3.5 million in scholarships and awards from University Foundation funds to undergraduate students. Most academic (merit-based) scholarships for first-year students are awarded during the Admissions process and are primarily based on academic factors that are submitted by the applicant. All scholarships awarded by the Undergraduate Admissions office are renewable for eight semesters of full-time enrollment, or the completion of a Bachelor’s degree. To renew the scholarship each year, students must maintain specific academic requirements which are detailed in the award letter.

In addition to merit-based scholarships, the Office of Student Financial Aid offers renewable need-based aid. For consideration of need-based scholarships or other federal, state or institutional need-based aid, students must complete the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year. Recently, the University of Georgia has increased its efforts on need-based aid with the introduction of the Georgia Commitment Scholars Program. The Georgia Commitment Scholars Program is a need-based scholarship program that is open to first-year students. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years and comes with a variety of programs and resources to support student success.

Please note: Students studying in the U.S. on a F-1 Visa (or similar) are not eligible for federal aid or need-based aid.

"I learned UGA doesn’t have one single story for a college experience. That alone was a deciding factor; there is so much to do and get involved in at UGA. I discovered that this school was one I could never be bored at and opportunities were endless."
